Niagara Frontier Radio Reading Service is excited to celebrate its 39th anniversary on March 19. Since 1987, Radio Reading has offered audio versions of national and location newspapers, magazines, and best-selling books for people who can’t read this content in print.
We do this to help ensure equal access to the news, culture, and entertainment they need to live and thrive as engaged members of their community and the world around them. We’re the only service of its kind in New York State west of Albany, and our programming is always free to the 100,000+ people across the Western New York-Greater Rochester-Southern Ontario region with reading disabilities.
Radio Reading survives on the generosity of individual donors. In honor of our momentous anniversary, we encourage everyone who is able to CLICK HERE and donate $39 to “where needed most.” You may also mail a check made payable to Niagara Frontier Radio Reading Service to our studios at 1199 Harlem Road, Cheektowaga, NY 14227.

We are excited to announce Radio Reading service has been restored to the Syracuse, NY region with our offering of the Post Standard newspaper weekly. It’s almost impossible to imagine not being able to read, but there are some 130,000 people who are blind or have a print disability in the Western New York-Rochester-Southern Ontario region. Some of these neighbors have never had the ability to read, while others lost the ability or access to information due to age, accidents, medical conditions, or socioeconomic barriers.
Cut off from the newspapers, magazines, and books that most of us take for granted, your Niagara Frontier Radio Reading Service is a way to share these materials. Call 716-821-5555 extension 3 if you would like more information about receiving NFRRS programming. We will even come to your residence or living facility to set you up with the listening option that best meets your needs.
Our broadcasts are transmitted over a subcarrier radio frequency, provided at no charge by Buffalo Toronto Public Radio and WNED 94.5 FM, to special receivers that are loaned to registered listeners for free.
We also transmit over the internet through our website livestream and mobile app to computers, mobile phones, and smart speakers. Many of our programs are available on demand as podcasts – so listeners can listen to what they want, when they want, and how they want! Long regarded as one of the nation’s finest radio reading services for the blind, we have compiled a track record of exemplary efficiency, productivity, and excellence. And our recently added affiliation with WNY Independent Living gives us access and insight to even more of the information and resources we need to fulfill our mission of accessibility and inclusiveness.
